Preparing for an MRI scan is simple, but following a few key steps can ensure a smooth experience and the best possible results. Below are essential MRI preparation tips based on the type of scan you're having.

General MRI Preparation Guidelines

✔ Wear Loose, Comfortable Clothing

✔ Remove All Metal Items

  • Before entering the MRI room, remove jewelry, watches, piercings, hairpins, and eyeglasses.
  • If you have metallic dental work (braces, fillings, etc.), let the  technician know.

✔ Avoid Wearing Makeup or Lotions

  • Some cosmetics and lotions contain microscopic metal particles that could affect the scan.

✔ Tell Your Technician About Any Implants or Medical Devices

  • MRI  scans use strong magnetic fields, so inform your doctor if you  have:
       
    • Pacemakers, defibrillators, or heart stents
    •  
    • Cochlear implants (hearing devices)
    •  
    • Metallic  joint replacements or screws
    •  
    • Pregnancy (especially in the first trimester)

✔ Eat Normally Unless Told Otherwise
